Madhuri Dixit's plans to promote her upcoming film in the interiors had to be nixed because her security cover was proving to be too expensive
Madhuri Dixit’s security cover has apparently taken a toll on the country-wide promotions of her upcoming film Dedh Ishqiya. Promotions across the country stand cancelled as the makers cannot afford the star’s exorbitant security cover.
The cast will now only promote the film in New Delhi on January 6. Abhishek Chaubey’s film starring Madhuri with Naseeruddin Shah, Arshad Warsi and Huma Qureshi is a medium budget project. When the budgeting was being done for the city tours it was pegged at approximately R5-6 lakh per city and the makers felt it not wise to spend so much on the promotions alone.
Says a source, “The main reason for the high cost was the arrangement for Madhuri’s security. Usually about three to four bouncers accompany the star, but considering Madhuri’s fan following, more security is required.”
The source adds, “The film has a budget of around R16-17 crore so it makes no sense to spend R6-7 lakh on city promotions. Madhuri has a strong fan following and the security arrangements have to be very proper. The crowd gets out of control otherwise leading to unpleasant experiences.”
City tours had been planned for Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Jaipur and Indore. Producer Mansi Maroo says, “Madhuri Dixit has a crazy fan following so security is a major concern. We decided not to go to other cities, except Delhi keeping the budget in mind.”
