Salman Khan and Sooraj Barjatya decided to spell magic over once again as they teamed up for another Rajshri family drama. Titled Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, the film had Salman in a double role, romancing Sonam Kapoor. The film which received mixed reviews from the audiences has been doing staggering business at the box office.
With huge moolah in their kitty, the film has already raked in around Rs 160 crore in a matter of eight days (an extended week), which is great. But given the film's huge budget, the team might have needed to worry a bit. Yet, the film has indeed turned out to be a profitable venture for everyone involved. And it has also created 5 box office records so far!
Highest opening day of 2015!
The film earned in the range of Rs 39.50 crore on its first day, which means that Salman thumped his own previous best for the year and PRDP emerged as the biggest opener of the year so far. It was Bajrangi Bhaijaan with around Rs 26 crore on its opening day that stood as the biggest opener before PRDP hit screens.
Highest opening day ever!
Last year, Shah Rukh Khan's Happy New Year had created history by collecting over Rs 36 crore at the box office on its opening day. This year, Salman's PRDP has beaten that record by opening at over Rs 39 crore. No wonder it has not only turned out to be the biggest opener of 2015 but it has also recorded the highest opening day figures ever.
Highest opening for Salman!
Salman's Ek Tha Tiger had stormed theatres on Eid 2012 when it raked in around Rs 32 crore on day one. Three years later, this Diwali, Salman finally broke his jinx and he had PRDP standing as his biggest opener in his entire career!
Highest opening day for Sonam!
Much before the film released, Sonam had told reporters that she was confident about the film opening to some ridiculous numbers, courtesy the presence of the Dabangg Khan. So it did. But in doing so, PRDP has also turned out to be Sonam's biggest opener and highest grosser till date.
Sooraj Barjatya's first 100 crore film
Barjatya is known for making family films. While none of the films of this genre had connected with the masses in the last few years, there was a risk of PRDP being outdated too. But Sooraj managed to give it a contemporary touch and when you have the ruling emperor of the box office in the bay, you hardly need to worry. This is Sooraj's first film to enter the 100 crore club and it's therefore his highest grossing film too.
While the film has already collected over Rs 160 crore at the domestic BO, what needs to be seen is if the film is able to enter the Rs 200 crore club. Why we say that? Due to an average word of mouth, the film has suffered a huge blow and there's been a steep decline in the film's collections ever since.
