Canada Beats Sweden In Men’s Olympic Hockey Final

What a game! After defeating Team USA, Canada kept their momentum going in the gold medal game against Sweden — and they dominated with a 3-0 win!

Congrats to Canada — they are Olympic champions! The Canadians got out to a fast start and never looked back in the gold medal game on Feb. 23, enforcing their will to claim the top spot with a 3-0 victory over Team Sweden.

Team Canada Wins Olympic Men’s Hockey Gold

After getting help from plenty of little-known role players throughout the tournament, Canada’s biggest stars came through when it mattered the most in the final game. Jonathan Toews netted the first goal for the Canucks in the first period, and then the most famous player in the world, Sidney Crosby – who hadn’t scored once in the Olympics — scored on a breakaway at the end of the second period.

Chris Kunitz notched a third Canadian goal with a wicked wristshot in the final period, and that was more than enough for Canada to take gold.

Sweden had a stacked team, but the Canadians were just too strong on defense, and the team in gold and blue just couldn’t find a way to score. They’ll go home with the silver medal.
Team Canada Defeats Team USA

Because of the apparent ease with which Canada won the gold medal game, many will say that they really won the Olympic tournament when they beat Team USA in the semifinals.

It was an unbelievably intense battle — a rematch of the 2010 gold medal game in Vancouver — and after 60 minutes of back and forth action, Canada was able to escape with a 1-0 win over their rivals from the south.

And they were clearly invigorated by that huge victory, because they were unstoppable against the Swedes on Feb. 23. They definitely deserve the gold medal.
